Meaning

End of contact — signing off, leaving the frequency.

Practical usage

Sent as a single continuous character (dit-dit-dit-dah-dit-dah), not as separately spaced letters. Marks the true end of the whole contact, unlike AR which only ends one message/transmission within an ongoing exchange. "VA" is an equivalent alternate rendering of the exact same sound pattern (it is literally V+A joined, which produces an identical Morse shape to S+K joined) — both are understood the same way.
