Practical usage

Sent at the end of a transmission to invite a reply from anyone listening — classically closes a CQ call ("CQ CQ DE HS8AC K"). Loosely also referred to as a procedural CW abbreviation in casual conversation, though formally it is a prosign. Compare with KN, which restricts the reply to one specific station.
