Practical usage
The formal Q-code is simply an instruction to reduce power. Amateur radio has built an entire popular sub-discipline around the same term: "QRP operating" means deliberately using very low power (conventionally 5 W or less on CW, 10 W or less on SSB) as a challenge/skill discipline — this amateur-culture meaning is broader than the strict formal instruction and is worth stating explicitly so the two are not confused.
