Transmitting and receiving on two different frequencies — the normal mode for using a repeater.

Practical usage
Repeaters listen on one frequency (the input) and retransmit on another (the output), separated by a standard "offset" that varies by band. Most VHF/UHF handheld and mobile radios call this "repeater mode" or automatically apply the standard offset for the band.
