Meaning

The operator setting up and transmitting from the park (POTA) or summit (SOTA) itself.

Practical usage

The same term, "Activator," is used by both POTA and SOTA for this role — but the term for the other side of the contact differs between the two programs: POTA calls them Hunters, SOTA calls them Chasers. Don't mix the two up.
